February Celebrations

We may be in the grip of icy midwinter weather, but we're not succumbing to seasonal blues.

February 6th is the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen's accession to the throne and we're launching a new section of our website dedicated to her extraordinary life and achievements.

We're also in the mood for romance; with Valentine's Day and a leap year in the offing, we've got plenty of advice about proposals and engagements.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

On 6th February 1952 Princess Elizabeth learnt of the death of her father, while staying in a safari lodge in Kenya. She had become Queen, and returned immediately to Britain.

This month she celebrates the 60th anniversary of this day. She is Britain's second longest-reigning monarch, overtaken only by Queen Victoria, who ruled for 63 years.

We are launching a new section to our website, which is dedicated to Queen Elizabeth's life story, her public and private roles, and her status as a style icon. We will also offer a comprehensive guide to the Jubilee celebrations that will take place in May/June 2012.

February Romance

2012 is a leap year, when traditionally women may propose.  Whether you're taking advantage of this custom or adhering to more conventional manners, we have lots of useful advice on proposals and engagements, from choosing the ring to telling the parents.

Announcements inevitably follow engagements and we have plenty of advice on informally spreading the word, as well as the correct form for traditional newspaper announcements.

Finally, you'll want to celebrate; engagement parties are often the first occasion on which prospective parents-in-law meet. It's important that they go with a swing, so follow our advice and celebrate your enagement in style.
