About Penhaligon's

The venerable English fragrance company was established in 1870 by William Penhaligon, whose first scent, Hammam Bouquet, was dreamt up after inhaling the steam and sulphurous aromas of his neighbouring Turkish baths.

Some 135 years after William Penhaligon opened his first barber's shop in London's exclusive Jermyn Street, Penhaligon's retains its reputation for creative and innovative perfumery, offering a portfolio of 35 unusual and distinctive fragrances.

The Last Days of Summer

It's back to school this week, but the summer isn't over yet. The positive energy generated by a fantastically successful Olympic Games is now being reinforced and reasserted at the Paralympics.

And the mellow days of September are still a perfect excuse to be out and about, enjoying the ongoing Season highlights. All we need now is an Indian Summer!

September Season

Traditionally, the Season ended in August with the start of the shooting season and a mass retreat to country estates. In these more democratic times we can all enjoy the huge range of activities on offer during these last days of summer.

On September 8th it's the Last Night of the Proms, the traditional, rollicking end to a long summer of outstanding music.

Horse-racing fans will be looking forward to the world's oldest Classic race, the Doncaster St Leger, which has been entertaining punters since 1776. The Irish Field St Leger, later in the month, is the final high note of the Irish flat racing season.

September is a month of harvests and plenty and this is reflected in a plethora of food festivals around the country. From the Galway Oyster Festival and the Great British Cheese Festival to food fairs at Ludlow, Mold and Alnwick, September is truly a gourmet month.

A Sporting Triumph

Hot on the heels of a record-breaking Olympic Games, Team GB is once again living up to high expectations, and is currently number two in the medal tables at the Paralympic Games.

An entry in Debrett's People of Today is a recognition of achievement in a vast range of fields, and many athletes have been recorded by Debrett's as outstanding competitors.

Amongst the increasingly well-known paralympians who have entries in People of Today are: Jody Cundy (cycling), Danielle Brown (archery), Tom Aggar (rowing), Heather Frederiksen (swimming) and Ben Rushgrove (athletics).

As the Paralympic Games unfold, we will be not only be cheering on our British athletes, we will be taking careful note of potential new entrants in our ever-growing record of attainment.
